We must be involved in multiplication
No longer can we rely on church additions to keep up with the growing demands of reaching the unchurched. We must be involved in multiplication. We must employ the most effective and efficient method of making disciples - the planting of new churches. Nothing else - not crusades, outreach programs, growing mega-churches, nor church renewal - will have the consistent impact of dynamic, extensive church planting. We could make no better investment in the kingdom of Christ.
New churches best reach the unchurched
A church 3 years old or younger leads one convert to Christ for every 3 members - that's a 33% increase. A 10 year old church averages one convert for every 7 members (14%) and a church over 50 years old sees 1 new convert for every 90 members (1.1% increase). The average new church gains most of its members (60% - 80%) from the unchurched, while churches over 10 - 15 years of age gain (80% - 90%) of new members from people moving from other congregations.
