In October of 1990, Jeff Nyberg, Ph.D. stepped out to start a new church in Plano, a growing professional community north of Dallas/Forth Worth Metroplex. It proved to be challenging, but rewarding work. Available funds from the local and state convention were minimal. Support and encouragement were in short supply. But, when God guides, He supplies! In order to fund the new work, Jeff founded Stepping Stones. Funds raised through Stepping Stones not only supported the establishment of Cornerstone Baptist Church of Plano, but 13 other churches as well since 1991. As Stepping Stones' involvement with more and more new church plants grew, so grew Jeff's passion to support and encourage church planting pastors.

In September 2003, the Lord made it possible for Jeff to leave his position as senior pastor to give his full energies to the planting of Christ-centered churches through the ministry of Stepping Stones.
